In our tutorial, “Guide to Creating & Improving Your Website for Brokers,” we walked you through creating your account and using Wix’s interactive tool to design your website. Now, it’s time to publish your site and connect a domain (your internet address). One thing we really love about Wix is it breaks down the steps you need to take to finalize your website and provides a time frame. For example, Wix will say “Publish Your Site- 1 Min.” Wix also offers you customized recommendations on how to improve your website, which we encourage you to explore. Let’s dive into how exactly to set up your domain and how to get published.
Connect a Domain
A domain is your website’s internet address. For instance, Visio Lending’s domain is www.visiolending.com. To get started, simply visit your dashboard and click "Connect Domain."
Wix automatically generates a free domain for you based on your username. Ours is visiomktg.wixsite.com/website, which we will continue to use for training purposes. However, we strongly recommend using a business domain to add credibility and build a stronger brand. In order to add a custom domain, you will have to update your account. There are various options which Wix will layout from you ranging from $13-$500 month. For brokers, we suggest their Business Unlimited Plan which is $27 per month (and often Wix offers discounts!).
Wix then gives you the option to buy a new domain or connect an existing domain you own.
If you want to buy a new domain, you can use the search feature to look for your business name and find available plans and pricing.
Wix will then guide you through how to purchase your domain and get it connected. If you want to add an existing domain, after you have upgraded your account, Wix will give you instructions for the transfer.
Publish Your Site
Once your domain is set up, it's time to publish your site. Go back to your Wix Dashboard and select "Publish Site" from the recommended actions.
And congratulations! You have a website.
Wix will give you next steps, which we will continue to cover in additional tutorials. Subscribe to receive our marketing tutorials directly into your inbox here. Also, be sure to check out our blog.
